Pop'n TwinBee (Pop'n ツインビー Pop'n TsuinBī) is a top-view shoot'em up game originally released by Konami for the Super Famicom on March 26, 1993 in Japan. It is a direct follow-up to the arcade game Detana!! The European Super NES version was. Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures Review (Wii U eShop / SNES). Not as excellent as Pop'n TwinBee, imo. My fifth SFC cart that I got in 2012 when I started importing SFC carts, and one.
Well, he hasn'talways been this way and Madoka, his beautiful grand-daughter, explains thathe turned evil after allegedly hurting his head. His Donguri-Tai army (evilAcorn soldiers) is now marching all across the kingdom and Madokadecides to call Pastel and Light, the two elite Twinbee pilots,to the rescue.
TwinBee (andits sister ship Winbee) are back in this colorful and exclusiveSuper Famicom title - the cute ships and their skilled pilots are readyto save the day and they come equipped with the most formidable arsenal known toman. In the Twinbee tradition, the ships can shoot at airborne enemies aswell as bomb ground-based targets with their little arms.
They start their journeywith a simple Vulcan gun, and colored bells hidden inside floating(and smiling) clouds can upgrade their weapons in a wide variety of ways. Each bell can be shot at multiple times and eventually change color to revealall kind of power-ups such as Speed Ups (blue), Large Beam (silver),Three-Shots (purple), Flying Options (green) or Shields (pink).Additionally, each aircraft can unleash a devastative swarm of mini-robots(called Chibis) that can easily wipe out most enemies on screen, but alas, thisformidable weapon is only available in limited quantities. Finally, each Twinbeecan charge-up and deliver a powerful close-range punch that will punish any enemy foolenough to stay within its close vicinity (it can also be used to punch through enemy bullets!).Pop'n Twinbee consists of seven long levels each culminating with a boss battle.A two-player simultaneous mode is also available and introduces some new gameplay features, such as the ability to grab and throw the other player around the screen.
Pop'n Twinbee is technically the fifth game in Konami's Twinbee series, after( Arcade/MSX/Famicom, 1986),( Famicom, 1988),( Famicom, 1989) andDetana!! Twinbee ( Arcade/ Others, 1991). However,Pop'n Twinbee's gameplay is heavily based on Detana!! Twinbee, andthe game borrows many features from its arcade predecessor while introducing itsown unique elements (this is why Pop'n Twinbee is often referred as asequel/follow-up to Detana!! The game was very popular in Japanand even spawned several mangas and audio CDs.
A radio drama show calledTwinBee Paradise (somewhat based on Pop'n Twinbee) was even airedthere from 1993 to 1997 (as well as a series of animes)! Curiously, Pop'n Twinbee was only localized forthe SNES in Europe (maybe the game wasn't considered for a USrelease because of its ultra-cute and anime-style theme). The game was apparentlysuch a success there that Konami decided to release Pop'n Twinbee forthe Gameboy the following year - however, this portable version was inreality Twinbee Da!, a Japanese Game Boy game originally releasedin 1990 by Konami and initially intended as a port/remake of the originalTwinbee. Interestingly, the name 'Pop'n Twinbee' sort of stuck in Europe - forinstance, the cute platform game TwinBee Rainbow Bell Adventure followedfor the Super Famicom in 1994, and was released in Europe asPop'n TwinBee Rainbow Bell Adventures.See for more informationabout the game series.Teaser text from the European version:One sunny day on Donguri Island, Twinbee & Winbee are buzzing about on patrol whensuddenly they receive a message. Unpause and enjoy the ride.Game modes:Pop'n Twinbee comes with an interesting features - in the option screen, the two-player only Game-Mode can be changed from 'Normal' to 'Couple'.In 'Couple' mode, enemies focus their fire onto the first player, giving a more'rookie' second-player some breathing space.LKAdd your Pov here!POVsSome people may disagree with what I am about to say here, but I'll goahead and say it anyway - Konami's TwinBee series is magnificentand glorious! I've always loved it and this exclusive episode isa blast! The game looks incredible and is laced with colorful and cute graphics. The soundtrack is also extremely catchy and will stay with you for a longwhile. Additionally, and except for very rare slowdowns, the game is technically flawless. The attention to detail is truly astonishing and the visual effects the game throws at the screenare pure lushness. The game has a relatively balanced difficulty level(it uses a life-bar instead of a instant death life-system) but laterlevels get really tough and challenging. Some players often argue thatPop'n TwinBee is a shooter for 'beginners' and that it embodiesthe Cute'em up genre.
Although Twinbee is the epitomeof that genre for sure, it is definitively not an easy series of games.Twinbee's difficulty is definitively on par with more traditional shooters and theseries has always been a breath of fresh air in a genre heavily associated withspaceships and alien invasions. So you will either love it or hate it - but I definitivelyfall into the first category and this Super Famicom exclusive opus isa must have and a thrilling and addictive game from start to finish.Definitively one of the best shooter for the system!
